Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does dark paint make a room look smaller? |
A: Sure in some situations. But it may not be the darkness of the color that is applied if it is the right color for the room. For example, if you are doing an interior in olive greens and you put forest green on the walls it could make the room seem smaller because you are using the wrong shade of green. I love to use darker colors on walls to make the room seem more cozy and inviting. |
Q: Would a solid rug work better with floral patterned furniture? |
A: Not necessarily. Mixing colors and patterns makes a room more interesting. Try a striped rug or a muted oriental rug. If mixing patterns scares you, use a solid color rug with a heavy texture like shag. |
Q: I have a 2 story great room and the walls seem so empty and vast. How do I fill up the space? |

A: Your first might be to hang a huge tapestry or picture. This might work if you can find a piece of art large enough or you are able to justify spending the cash on, but I recommend using the architectural details of the home. For example, try applying a wood molding around the perimeter of the room, this can break up that vastness. Two different paint color can then be applied to help the situation even more. |

Q: Should grout color match your tile? |
A: Yes I think it should. By adding a contrasting grout color it can sometimes show more attention to the grout than the tile. Not only will your tile look cleaner, it will enhance the beauty of the tile and open up the space. If you are trying to achieve a vintage, rustic, or historical look with a heavy pattern, contrasting grout could be the way to go. |

Q: My kitchen is so dark due to lack of natural light. I’m thinking of adding can lights and get rid of my old florescent fixture. Is this a good solution? |
![]() |
A: Can lights are always a good option for task lighting because they can go almost anywhere – they are very versatile and can be put on a dimmer for nice atmosphere lighting when task lighting is not needed. I also love the use of under cabinet lighting in a kitchen. It is very affordable, can light up those dark corners, and also provides a nice night light. Pendant and soffit lighting is another fun lighting option. |

Q: Are window treatments necessary? |
![]() |
A: For so many reasons YES! (Unless you live on the coast in one of those very contemporary and modern homes.) Sorry if you are reading this and live in the good ol’ Midwest! First of all they are a good way to protect your furnishings, fabrics, and even hardwood floors from ultra violet damage. Second, it provides a sense of security. You may not mind walking around in your birthday suite if your home is surrounded by woods, but think about guests, babysitters, and worse… burglars! Third, they can provide some insulation to older drafty homes. Last, I’ll use one of my favorite analogies: picture a woman with a face full of makeup, but she forgets her mascara.. Something is just missing. Window treatments can be expensive, but it just finishes the project you just invested so much money on. There are tons of options out there so keep some money in your budget. |

Q: I love the look of granite but heard it is a lot of maintenance. Is that true? |
![]() |
A: Granite is one of the most popular and one of the best materials you can use in a kitchen. It used to be that you should seal your granite tops every 6 months to a year; however, the fabricator we use is sprayed with a 15 year sealer called SENGAURD. There is no additional cost for this treatment and it prevents staining which was a worry back in the day. |
